Physics Catalog

This section of the catalog concerns basic physics. Physics provides the foundation upon which engineering and measurement are built. Physics concerns itself with the basic groundrules of the physical world, the components and forces that govern our reality.

Course No.Course TitleEq. Hours*Prerequisites
PHYS50 Introduction to Vectors

This course is an introduction to how vector quantities can be represented geometrically and mathematically, on concepts related to vectors and the spaces in which they exist, and on mathematical operations that can be performed on vector quantities.

 5none
PHYS51 Introduction to Position, Velocity, and Acceleration

This is the second course in a series on basic physics. This course covers the vector quantities of position, velocity, and acceleration

 5PHYS50
PHYS52 Introduction to Force, Momentum, Work, and Energy

The third in a series of courses on the basic quantities of physics and how they are used. This is the foundation of the science of dynamics, the study of how things move, and the related science of statics, the study of why things don't move.

 5PHYS51
PHYS53 Introduction to Angle, Angular Velocity, and Angular Acceleration

This is the fourth in a series of basic physics courses on the topic of angular motion. Included are concepts of angle, angular velocity, and angular acceleration.

 5PHYS52
PHYS54 Introduction to Torque, Angular Momentum, and Rotational Energy

An introduction to the concepts of rotational dynamics including, torque, angular momentum, rotational energy, moment of inertia, and conservation of angular momentum. This is a continuation of the series on the basic quantities of physics.

 5PHYS53
PHYS160 Thermodynamics - The Laws of Thermodynamics

This is the first of a series of courses on thermodynamics. The topic of this course are the laws of thermodynamics and the preliminary concepts that are required for an understanding of thermodynamics.
